Shock & Brackets
When transplanting a JK front axle into a TJ, LJ, XJ, MJ, or ZJ chassis, you gain stronger axles and better off-road capability, but the steering geometry changes. A steering stabilizer shock mounting provision is provided in RockJock’s conversion steering kit and this Shock & Brackets category offers a stabilizer shock for use with the conversion, as well as other shock mounting provisions for specialized installation needs.
What’s Included
- Steering Stabilizer Shock / Damper — A shock absorber or stabilizer applied to the steering to absorb jolts, maintain stability over rough terrain, and smooth feedback from big tires or lifted suspension.
- Clamp Style Bracket Kit — Custom-designed brackets that clamp onto the larger 42 mm tie-rod tube allowing secure mounting of the stabilizer.
- Relocation Stud Kit — universal stud allows you to relocate and adjust where the stabilizer attaches for proper alignment and shock stroke.
Why This Category Matters
- Stabilizer Shocks are mandatory — Reconnecting the stabilizer shock after an axle swap will require addressing the shock mounting. These optional mounts assist with mounting and achieving proper shock geometry after a JK-axle swap.
- Improved steering control with big tires or lifted suspension — Larger tires, increased suspension height, or off-road terrain add stress to steering; the stabilizer helps dampen shocks and side-to-side kickback, enhancing control and reducing wear on rod ends and joints.
- Bolt-on and maintenance-friendly — The bracket kit clamps onto the tie-rod tube with no welding required, providing a working stabilizer mount without complicated custom fabrication.
- Better durability for hard-use rigs — Off-road builds, heavy loads, and lifted setups benefit from proper damping and solidly mounted components, reducing wear and risk of failure.
Ideal Use Cases
You should consider this category when:
- You’ve swapped a JK front axle into an older Jeep chassis (TJ/LJ/XJ/MJ/ZJ).
- Your build has oversized tires, lifted suspension, or is used frequently off-road.
- You want solid steering stability despite modified geometry — especially on rough terrain or under heavy load.
- You prefer a bolt-on solution rather than custom welding or fabrication to mount your stabilizer shock.
What to Check / Important Considerations
- After installing a new stabilizer and bracket, cycle the suspension and steering fully to check clearance, proper shock travel, and ensure nothing binds or interferes during full articulation (bump or rebound).
- The shock attachment hardware in this category is designed for traditional-style stabilizer shocks — it is not compatible with hydraulic ram-assist steering setups.
- Because this is a custom setup, verify geometry, bump-stops, axle clearance, and steering angles based on axle width, tire size, lift height, and other modifications.
