CJ (76–86 Jeep) Towing System

This category is all about towing solutions suited for 1982–1986 models of the classic CJ series (CJ‑5, CJ‑7, CJ‑8, etc.) - combining historic Jeep robustness with modern tow bar hardware so your vintage ride can be flat‑towed safely behind your rig.To ensure you follow the correct setup and safety procedures for your vintage Jeep, be sure to review our Instruction Manuals.

Why a CJ‑Specific Towing Category

• Vehicle‑specific mounting & compatibility - Parts listed under this category are engineered to match the CJ’s frame specifications and leaf‑spring shackle configuration - avoiding mismatched or unsafe modifications. For example, vehicle platform specific front tow shackles that bolt in place of stock shackles are designed for CJ‑5, CJ‑7 and CJ‑8.These specialized components and professional installation support can be found through our Dealer Locator.

• Restore & upgrade classic Jeep functionality - Because many CJs are older vehicles, stock shackles, bushings or tow points may be worn or weak. Upgraded towing‑ready shackles and tow‑bar hardware help bring reliability back for safe flat‑towing.

• Support for both flat‑towing - If you’re wanting to flat‑tow your CJ behind an RV / tow‑vehicle - this category gives you the right components (tow bars, shackles) fitted to the CJ frame.

What You’ll Find in CJ Towing Solutions

Typical parts and kits in this category include:

• Front Tow Shackles - Heavy‑duty, greasable shackles that replace stock leaf‑spring shackles and integrate quick‑disconnect points for tow bars. These make flat‑towing simple and safe.

• Universal Tow Bars - Tow bar kits designed to work with CJ’s chassis and shackles, allowing straight‑pull flat‑towing when used with proper mounting and hitch hardware.

Fitment & Use Cases

This category is ideal when you:

• Own a CJ‑series Jeep (1982–1986) and want to restore or upgrade stock suspension shackles and add towing capability without compromising frame integrity.

• Plan to flat‑tow your CJ behind an RV or larger vehicle - making use of quick‑disconnect tow bars and dedicated shackles.

• Are working on a restoration or refurb build - replacing old/worn shackles, bushings, or suspension hardware while adding modern towing/recovery readiness.
