Rubber Washers
The Rubber Washers category covers soft-material washers designed to provide sealing, vibration damping, cushioning, and noise reduction in mechanical assemblies, suspension systems, and custom builds. These washers are especially useful where you need to isolate metal-to-metal contact, absorb shocks, or prevent loosening in high-vibration or impact environments. To ensure you are following the correct setup procedures for your application, please consult our Instruction Manuals.
What Rubber Washers Do & Their Key Benefits
- Vibration dampening and noise reduction – Rubber washers absorb shocks and vibrations that metal washers would otherwise transmit directly, helping protect connected parts and reduce noise under load or movement.
- Sealing and protection against contaminants – Because rubber compresses slightly, these washers help create tight seals, making them useful in assemblies exposed to water, dust, mud, or debris—common in off-road or outdoor applications.
- Surface protection & load distribution on soft or painted surfaces – Rubber washers cushion bolts and mounting points to prevent deformation, scratching, or paint damage on delicate or finished surfaces.
RockJock’s Rubber Washer Use Case
- In articulating suspension applications – high articulation rod end joints, such as Johnny Joints, don’t naturally return to center after they flex, often times causing the end of a control arm or Trac bar to rest against a bracket and cause noise or wear.
- Installation of rubber washers – installed onto Johnny Joints before the joints are installed into brackets or mounts isolates the joint from the bracket and allows the joint, after articulating, to be pushed back to center by the rubber washers.
- Sealing – while not a total seal, the installation of the rubber washers resists the build up of debris on a Johnny Joint allowing for increased joint longevity and lifespan by preventing contaminants from entering the rotating portion of the joints. These specialized washers can be sourced through our Dealer Locator to find a professional shop near you.
Fitment & Considerations
- Match the outer diameter (OD) precisely to the outer diameter (OD) of the Johnny Joint that the washer is being mated to, to maintain proper sealing and alignment.
- Select the correct amount of washers to achieve the required thickness for the available gap to provide improved vertical joint stability.
- Use rubber washers where sealing, vibration isolation, or noise reduction is required.
- Plan for periodic inspection and replacement, as rubber can degrade faster than metal when exposed to heat, chemicals, or long-term compression.
